J. de Curtò defends his PhD thesis.
- PhD student J. de Curtò has successfully defended his PhD thesis before an international jury that included Profs. Eva Onanindia, Raquel Martínez and Joao Pedro Carvalho. The thesis was supervised by Prof. Carlos T. Calafate.
December 20, 2023:
I. de Zarzà defends her PhD thesis.
- PhD student I. de Zarzà has successfully defended her PhD thesis before an international jury that included Profs. Piedad Garrido, Andrés Tomás and Silvia Mirri. The thesis was supervised by Prof. Carlos T. Calafate.
December 14-15, 2023:
Jamie Wubben and José Daniel attend the EAI Simutools 2023 conference.
- PhD student José Daniel Padrón and post-doctoral researcher Jamie Wubben attended the 15th edition of the annual International Conference on Simulation Tools and Techniques (SIMUtools 2023) to present papers related to UAVs and software-defined networks.
December 4.8, 2023:
Prof. Carlos T. Calafate attends the Globecom 2023 conference.
- Prof. Carlos T. Calafate attended the IEEE Globecom 2023 conference as organizer of the Un-IoT 2023 workshop and paper presenter. There he met several colleagues including Marco Zennaro, Celimuge Wu and Abdellah Cherie, among many others.
October 29th - November 2nd, 2023:
Jamie Wubben attends the MSWiM 2023 conference.
- Post-doc student Jamie Wubben attended the 20th ACM International Symposium on Performance Evaluation of Wireless Ad Hoc, Sensor, and Ubiquitous Networks (part of ACM MSWiM 2023), in Montreal, Canada, to present paper UAV wireless communications performance in urban environments.
September 25, 2023:
Jamie Wubben defends his PhD thesis.
- PhD student Jamie Wubben has successfully defended his PhD thesis before an international jury that included Profs. Enrico Natalizio, Wojciech Giernacki and Manuel Malumbres, obtaining maximum score. The thesis was supervised by Profs. Carlos T. Calafate and Juan Carlos Cano.
September 20-22, 2023:
5 members of the GRC group attend the Jornadas Sarteco 2023.
- Prof. Carlos T. Calafate joined students Iker Nebot, Virginia Casino, Julián Arenillas and David Clérigues to the Jornadas Sarteco 2023. During the events, all students presented their works in different technical sessions.
September 13-15, 2023:
Prof. Carlos T. Calafate attends the ICT-DM 2023 conference.
- Prof. Carlos T. Calafate attended the IEEE ICT-DM 2023 conference dedicated on disaster management. In the conference he acted as TPC Chair, and also has paper presenter. There he met several colleagues including Floriano de Rango, Claudio Casetti, and Mauro Tropea, among many others.
September 12-13, 2023:
Prof. Carlos T. Calafate gives a seminar on UAVs at Univ. Consenza.
- Prof. Carlos T. Calafate gave a seminar on UAVs to the doctoral students of the University of Cosenza. The seminar lasted for 2 days, with a total of 4 hours.
September 5, 2023:
Prof. Daniel Costa visits the GRC
- Prof. Daniel Costa, from FEUP, Oporto, Portugal, visited the GRC as part of an Erasmus+ mobility grant. He gave a talk entitled: Emergency Management in Smart Cities: A Convergence of IoT, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

- Prof. Enrique Hernández Orallo attended the ICCS 2023 conference, taking place in Prague, Czech Republic, to present a poster on a new concept for handling potential collisions between UAVs.

- Prof. Carlos T. Calafate and PhD student José Daniel Padrón Pérez attended the IEEE VTC-Spring 2023 conference, taking place in Florence, Italy, where each of them presented their own paper on topics related to drones & SDN.
June 10, 2023:
GRC members participate in the UPV's science fair
- Different members of the GRC participated in the UPV's science fair (Feria de los Inventos) on its 2023 edition. Highlights included environmental monitoring using IoT devices and drones.

Prof. Abderrahmane Lakas visits de GRC
- Prof. Abderrahmane Lakas, from the United Arab Emirates University (UAE) visited the GRC as invited guest. During the days of his visited he gave a keynote entitled: "Connected Intelligent Autonomous Systems."

- Prof. Pietro Manzoni and PhD student Jamie Wubben attended the IEEE ICC 2023 conference, where each of them presented their own paper on topics related to drones & IoT.
March 27-29, 2023:
Prof. Carlos T. Calafate gives a seminar at IMEC-U.Antwerp, Belgium.
- Prof. Carlos Calafate gave a class dedicated to distibuted UAV systems to Master students at U. of Antwerp, along with a talk on IoT-related topics at IMEC.
January 8-11, 2023:
Prof. Pietro Manzoni attends the IEEE CCNC 2023 conference.
- Prof. Pietro Manzoni attended both CES and CCNC, presenting in the latter paper "A modular and mesh-capable LoRa based Content Transfer Protocol for Environmental Sensing".
December 2, 2022:
Prof. Carlos T. Calafate gives a seminar on UAVs at UMH.
- Prof. Carlos T. Calafate was invited by Prof. Manuel Pérez Malumbres and his team to give a seminar to both Master and PhD students at the Miguel Hernández University, in Elche, Spain.
November 10-11, 2022:
Prof. Carlos T. Calafate attends the CN4R event in Abu Dhabi.
- Prof. Carlos T. Calafate was invited by the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), Abu Dhabi, UAE, to attend the International Course on Communications and Networking for Aerial, Terrestrial, Marine and Underwater Robotics (CN4R) as keynote speaker and panelist.
September 30, 2022:
PhD student Miguel Nakamura defended his PhD thesis.
- Miguel Nakamura presented the thesis entitled "Diseño de un sistema de mensajería instantánea para redes comunitarias", supervised by Dr. Pietro Manzoni and Dr. Marco Zennaro, having received the maximum score (Cum Laude).
September 26-28, 2022:
Prof. Carlos T. Calafate attends the IEEE/ACM DS-RT 2022 conference.
- At this conference, organized in Alés, France, Prof. Calafate presented paper "NBCC: Simulation of a new Caching strategy using Naive Bayes Classifier in NDN", made in collaboration with the U. Amar Telidji of Laghouat, Algeria.

- Professors Carlos T. Calafate, Juan Carlos Cano, Francisco Martínez and Julio Sanguesa, along with PhD students Jamie Wubben, José Daniel Padrón and Benjamín Arratia, have physically attended the Jornadas Sarteco 2022, taking place in Alicante, Spain, to present different papers with their latest research results.
