The work proposed in this project is aimed at creating a framework meeting the needs for communication and for infrastructure necessary to provide services to end-user in ubiquitous vehicular environments.
The vehicle to vehicle (V2V) and vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) communications will have a special relevance in this project. Various communication technologies will be exploited, mainly vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANET) and networks with infrastructure, whose main representative are cellular networks 3G. We will study the feasibility of such technologies in the area of vehicles, explore new strategies for modelling networks in VANETs, and directing all development towards an integrated environment for a communicating vehicle. In this regard, special attention will be given to provide a common communication interface, isolating the user from handoffs or changes that may occur between different network technologies.
Aspects that, in many cases, are considered at end in the development of service architectures for vehicles, such as security in the exchange and management of information, and the availability of a suitable location system, will be considered already in the early stages of the project.
All this work will be centralized in one integrated solution, explicitly detailing the activities for the creation of vehicular service system for both the vehicle and the infrastructure side. The traffic environment will be properly modelled, with the objective that the driver (and even passengers) takes advantage from seamless access to a range of services aimed both at improving driving safety and to the reception of information about points of interest or for entertainment
